Introduction to Contracts in New Jersey

To understand contracts in NJ, you need to know the basics of a contract and New Jersey contract law, including the legal definition of a contract.

A contract in NJ is simply a legally binding agreement between parties to do or not do something. Consumers and businesses enter into contracts for many reasons. An agreement to buy a car or home typically involves a contract. If one hires the services for his or her business, a contract is created. There are several factors to consider to determine whether a contract has been made. Once a contract has been created, it must be determined if there are any issues that call into question the contract's validity. Finally, if there has been a breach of the contract, there is a question of whether a party is entitled to money damages.

WARNING!  BEFORE YOU SIGN A CONTRACT IN NJ, UNDERSTAND IT!

One should always read and understand the document before agreeing to be held to its contents.

TESTIMONIAL

I own several small businesses. I’m good at what I do but legal matters and dealing with lawyers and legal issues is stressful. I called Fredrick P. Niemann and have developed a great relationship with his lawyers and staff. They have reviewed my leases, negotiated the buyout of my former business partner, handled land use problems in a neighboring county and generally have really been there for me. I really like them personally and professionally. If you are a small business owner, give them a call. —Mike Halsey, Middletown, NJ
